The 2018 European Le Mans Series prologue has finished. IDEC SPORT is confident in the potential of their new 2018 car, the Oreca 07 #28 as well as the Ligier #27 after some promising trials.
The start of the European Le Mans Series is rather like the moment when pupils return to school, but there is no need for satchels and blazers. There is an extremely competitive line-up with no fewer than 45 cars taking part, including 19 LMP2s, which is six more than in 2017. During the prologue, there were seventeen hours of racing on this top class circuit, the Paul Ricard track, which will host the F1 when it returns to France. IDEC SPORT is back racing with two LMP2 cars this year, the Ligier #27 for Patrice Lafargue, William Cavailhes and Erik Maris; Paul-Loup Chatin, Memo Rojas and Paul Lafargue are driving the Oreca #28.
Paul Lafargue, the silver driver in the Oreca left Le Castellet with the sixth best time overall. “It’s great to be back in the P2 category and to get to know the Oreca. The car is going well and we are pleased with how she performs. We tried to find a set up that would allow us to be at ease during the race while performing well,” said a pleased Paul Lafargue. “It’s true that we got some good times, so now we have to see what happens in the race. We form a great team with Memo (Rojas) and Paul-Loup (Chatin). The whole team is ready for the start of the season. We can’t wait to get out there on Sunday.”
With the prologue just over, it is time for the race itself. The season begins this weekend with the Castellet track 4-hour race. That is very practical, as the teams don’t have to worry about getting there. There will be two 90 minute sessions on 13th and 14th April, followed by a qualifying session lasting 10 minutes. This tricky exercise will determine the grid, but is not that significant in endurance racing. The 45 competitors in the 2018 ELMS will start the 4-hor race at noon on Sunday 15th.
