After setting sail yesterday lunchtime in light conditions, the crew of the IDEC SPORT maxi-trimaran finally picked up some wind and not just a little. After a calm stretch to Marseille, the wind suddenly got up as they headed south with gusts up to 30-35 knots. These extremely variable conditions make life complicated aboard the boat, which is speeding along at an average of thirty knots.
We should add that Actual Grand Large Emotion was forced to retire yesterday evening after suffering some damage, so we are now looking at a duel between Joyon and his lads and Thomas Coville and his crew on SODEBO. For the moment, the latter has the upper hand with a lead of almost forty miles, but anything is still possible. They are due to round the second course mark at Capo Spartivento in the South of Sardinia later today.
